ROTOS 360 SUPPORTS THE NEXT GENERATION OF TALENT IN THE RENEWABLES INDUSTRY

One of our exciting new clients, Rotos 360, wind turbine inspection, repair and installation specialist, is harnessing the talent of the next generation of renewables enthusiasts by welcoming two local interns into its office over the summer.
Maisie Dixon and Owen Jones have joined Grimsby-based Rotos 360 on a summer internship from North East Lincolnshire’s Franklin College as part of the Coastal Energy Internship, funded by the Ogden Trust. . The internship programme is designed to help students develop their STEM skills alongside the very important soft skills which help to deliver a meaningful project. This summer will see more than 120 internships delivered across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Barrow and now Grimsby; all-important coastal communities re-energised by the renewables industry. Maisie and Owen will be exploring new materials for use in blade repair.
Maisie and Owen both have an underlying interest in the renewables industry and the opportunities it has to offer. Maisie comments: “I chose to participate in the internship to gain valuable experience within the sector, which I will be able to apply to my future job whilst broadening my knowledge about the industry. I’m hoping to strengthen my pre-existing skills whilst developing new ones. It’s a perfect opportunity for me to better understand what a role in the industry will be like and what a potential future role could entail.”
During their internship, Maisie and Owen’s roles will be to help research more economically friendly adhesives that may be used for future blade repairs. This involves looking at different bio-based epoxy resins and bio-based epoxy curing agents and how to potentially replace petroleum-based materials with polymers derived from naturally-occurring feedstocks which would be compatible with the environment and those that would enhance sustainable development.
Maisie continues: “Working for Rotos 360 has been brilliant so far, it’s such a vibrant company and everyone is incredibly friendly and supportive. It has been really interesting to see the development of the industry and how it is improving the environment around us. We were even given a personal tour of the Ievoli Ivory which is working on the Triton Knoll UXO project for Innogy right by Rotos 360’s office at Grimsby Dock.”
As part of James Fisher and Sons plc, Rotos 360 is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals looking for opportunities within the renewables industries and developing the right skills for years to come. This includes playing an active role as a member of the Grimsby Renewables Partnership Group and attending regular recruitment fairs and RenewableUK networking events at local colleges around the county.
In addition to inspiring young individuals into the industry, Rotos 360 has also recently employed local individuals, Terry Reast in the role of Store Manager and Lima Currie, HSEQ Advisor.
Sarah Lancaster, Business Development Manager comments: “We are delighted to have welcomed Maisie and Owen to Rotos 360 for the summer. Our work is becoming increasingly relevant and important and we are so pleased that we are inspiring the next generation of talent to consider a role in this dynamic industry. We look forward to seeing how Maisie and Owen progress in their roles and how they enjoy working in this sector.”
