Did you know that 17% of people in the UK volunteer at least once a month?[1]

Volunteering goes a long way in creating a supportive community. Which is why, at Voice, each team member is given one volunteering day per year, and we place great emphasis on delivering pro bono activity to local charities and organisations.

To celebrate this National Volunteering Week, we wanted to share some ways we have given back within our community.

< Our Cornwall team volunteered with our client Oltco on a beach clean at Watergate Bay in Newquay. Leading resin bound specialists Oltco use waste plastic in its award winning Recycle Bound solution and so all plastic waste collected was dropped off at the Odyssey Ocean Waste Bin at Oltco’s HQ The Feel Good Building ready for re-use.

< Our PPC Executive Sam volunteered at Newquay Orchard, an urban greenspace built by the community, for the community, in the heart of Newquay. Sam undertook tree planting in order to improve biodiversity and support the environment. The Orchard’s #InOurNature project also supports volunteers in reconnecting with nature and social interaction to reduce loneliness in the community.

< As part of our commitment to supporting local charities and community initiatives through pro bono activity, last year we supported the Newquay Renaissance Project, a community arts project which aims to inspire creativity within the town and amongst the next generation as it imagines a new and positive future for Newquay.

< This year our Account Manager, Merryn, and Senior Account Director, Chris, had the chance to get involved in a project close to both of their hearts through their allocated volunteer day. Voice was approached by the Save Whipsiderry Cliffs initiative for PR support as part of a mission to protect Newquay’s coastline from development that would damage the ecosystems and environment. Merryn and Chris held a strategy workshop and helped the team with the press outreach strategy. The development has now been put on hold and Newquay Town Council voted unanimously to oppose the works.

< Our Founder, Nichola, is incredibly passionate about helping individuals grow and thrive not just within Voice but for our clients and the local community. Over the past four years she has been providing mentoring free mentoring and guidance.

< Our team held a free workshop with our fellow Cornish B-Corp agency, Leap, to educate them on menstruation and menopause in the workplace. Knowledge is power and we believe this is a conversation that needs to be had in order to reduce stigma and support those going through health changes, and we loved being able to give back to other businesses.

Giving back is at the heart of Voice and we are proud of all the work we have been able to carry out to support and nurture local organisations as well as encourage our team members to become involved in volunteering for causes they are passionate about.
